Construction of the new multi-million pound St Benedict’s Hospice is now officially underway after a traditional cutting of the sod ceremony carried out by Sue Winfield, NHS Property Services Primary Care Trust (PCT) Vice Chair and Derek Moss, Chair of St Benedict’s Hospice Board of Trustees.
Investment in the stability and professional management of the Practice is, as ever, a high priority for us and we are continuously identifying and developing strategies to further strengthen the Management team during, what we consider to be, ongoing challenging times for the profession.
Saturday Morning 10:15 am the weather was closing in, we couldn't wait any longer for Ben so a group of us set off on the treacherous first leg of the walk from Clay Bank Car Park to Lord Stones Café. We had just passed The Wainstones when we got the news!! Ben had made a last ditch attempt to catch up. He fought his way to the top of the first climb, but sadly didn’t make it any further and went back home.
Yesterday I had the honour of being part of the team to receive the award from the BRE for the, now confirmed, Outstanding award under BREEAM Healthcare for Houghton Primary Care Centre. The Award was made to Steve Naylor from Sunderland PCT at the IHEEM conference in Manchester.
Ireland Wood Surgery has been shortlisted for this year's RIBA Northern Network Awards. The scheme will be up against 37 other shortlisted entries, with the awards due to be presented on Friday 4th November. Fingers are firmly crossed.

The refurbishment of the Chemotherapy Day Unit at James Cook University Hospital has recently been completed. The refurbishment took what was a series of cramped, dark rooms and extended and refurbished the unit to create a much brighter and more open treatment space along with associated clinical and support spaces.
P+HS attended a factory visit with Nottingham Critical care staff to assess the flexibility and performance of the Drager Movita ICU Medical Pendant. As a part of the proposed scheme for NUH Adult Critical Care unit, it is the design intent to deliver all critical services from specialized medical pendants in place of the current bed head panels.
Some decent photographs taken recently by Chris Lawes of the new Radiotherapy Centre at Nottingham (LINACCS). Now fully operational, the building has bedded well into the site and the external materials appear to be complimenting its surroundings.
It's been a while since the last photos, but Ireland Wood Surgery is now fairly well progressed on site. The external rendering is now virtually complete and all the glazing is in place. Coloured Trespa panels will soon be fitted over the timber battens you can see in the bottom image, to complete the external appearance.
