Chop Gate

This development for Home Group provides affordable rented housing for local people with two bed bungalows and two and three bed houses, adding to and complimenting six units designed by P+HS over 10 years ago. The site benefits from open land and picturesque views to the South and West.

Thoughtful design ensures that the unique, traditional architectural character of the area is maintained, whilst addressing contemporary design and environmental issues. The elevational treatment is simple, however a mix of traditional materials used with contemporary form enhances the local environment.

Selected materials reflect the dominant sandstone of surrounding buildings, but Southern elevations have been treated with timber cladding and larger areas of glass open the dwellings to their surroundings and take advantage of solar gain. Roofs are clay pantile in order to ensure that both traditional and contemporary design fit comfortably within the local vernacular
