Hartlepool Innovation Centre

P+HS has worked with UK Steel Enterprise over a 15 year period as Architect and lead consultant developing proposals for Innovation Centres in Kirkleatham and Hartlepool in the North East and Ebbw Vale in South Wales.

The client’s brief was to use Corus products where appropriate and this became a driving factor of the concept, closely representing the company’s origins through the form construction and appearance of the building.

The facilities provide extremely high quality managed offices and workspace together with education and training facilities. The success of the first scheme in 1990 led the client to appoint P+HS on five subsequent occasions to prepare proposals for new and expanded facilities, each contributing to the regeneration of urban areas and job creation following closures in the steel industry.

The Innovation Centres provide fully managed workspaces from 20m² up to 400m² with flexibility to allow tenants to expand or contract in line with their business growth. Each of the projects included the provision of gym and sauna facilities for use by UKSE staff and tenants.

The latest project for UKSE involved working with Mansells on the design and delivery of a second Hub at Hartlepool to provide extended accommodation in response to demand from new businesses.
