Laura Mitchell Health & Wellbeing Centre
The new Laura Mitchell Health and Wellbeing Centre is designed to provide centralised support and help for Calderdale residents to improve their health and wellbeing within a stigma free, therapeutic environment at the heart of the community. It replaces an existing building, Laura Mitchell House, which was in poor repair, contained asbestos and was not fit for purpose.
South West Yorkshire NHS Foundation Trust were determined to transform services in Calderdale, providing a readily accessible community Hub with improved new health care services for local people: a welcoming building easily accessed on foot, bike, car or via public transport.
The three-story building provides a mix of out-patient consultation spaces for CAMHS, Adult and Older Adult Services as well as meeting spaces. Supporting staff’s adaptable working patterns, the facility also accommodates a flexible work base for community staff with café, quiet meeting corners, ‘breakfast/coffee bars’ as well as more traditional desk arrangements for full time office based staff.
The building offers a range of private and public functions. Private spaces include small meeting / group rooms and treatment rooms on the ground floor, larger group and meeting spaces on the first floor plus support areas for the clinical accommodation, general office and administration areas, library and storage on the second floor. Public areas include a welcoming reception, waiting areas and café.
