Quality Hotel
The new Quality Hotel in Piccadilly, York, was completed in mid-2001. This 100-bedroom hotel has been designed as a minimalist “boutique” hotel, breaking the Quality Hotel tradition.
P+HS designed the whole hotel, including the interior complete with furniture. The 6-storey project was built on a tight city-centre site, within the historic walls of York on a site with no working space, demanding careful design and co-ordination.
The bathrooms were a major feature of the detail design, being prefabricated and delivered “shrink-wrapped” to site for final installation, enabling the design to be verified through a series of prototypes. Shower walls are lined with screen-printed glass in dark blue or white solid colour.
P+HS designed all the furniture for the hotel, each piece being manufactured using a range of innovative techniques, including a revolutionary timber laminate, formed from computer-aligned softwood particles, designed to match any hardwood finish.
