This new, exclusive development of 12 houses and 8 apartments for private sale is developed for Mulberry Homes on a prime site in the historic market town of Richmond, North Yorkshire.
Situated close to the town centre and with some exceptional views towards Swaledale, the scheme comprises a mix of two and three bedroom apartments as well as terraced houses and detached dwellings varying in size from three to five beds. To the south of the site a row of houses is created in the style of a Georgian terrace, set into the slope giving two storeys to the north side and three to the south. These units enjoy south facing gardens and views over the Grade II listed Temple Grounds Park and valley beyond. Protected green space to the south of the site is retained as a communal orchard area. Apartments, located along the northern edge of the site are separated from the housing by a mews: a typical feature of other areas of the town.
The sensitive site required an exceptional amount of consultation with the community and planners in order to develop final designs that would provide much needed high quality local housing to complement the area and reflect its special history.
Traditional materials and detailing are used: random limestone with sawn ashlar stone around entrances, slate roofs with water tables emphasising the rhythm of the buildings and lead flashings; these elements combine with a contemporary and sustainable design approach suited to 21st century living.
As well as full architectural services for design and delivery, P+HS Architects were also commissioned to provide high quality visualisations and floor plans for the sales brochure.
