Bradley Spencer

BA(Hons) MArch PGDip RIBA
Architect, Associate

Brad is a senior architect and Associate at P+HS Architects' Leeds studio. Specialising in healthcare design Brad has been instrumental in the design and delivery of several major healthcare schemes including Berwick Community Hospital, the development of an Elective Procedures Unit extension at Royal Derby Hospital, multiple projects with University Hospitals of Leicester and several New Hospital Programme projects, among others. He has experience across the healthcare sector, working with Trusts, Contractors and PFI schemes under traditional, design and build and modular procurement routes.

Brad is currently leading on a number of schemes and has a keen interest in innovation and adaptation, notably for a recent study reviewing new ways to arrange an intensive care unit to facilitate continued operation and relative visiting in the event of an infectious outbreak using optimally arranged spatial layouts and finding opportunities for partial unit lockdowns. He is also passionate about encouraging new entrants into the architectural profession, regularly speaking to students at local universities and colleges and mentoring younger colleagues within the practice as they progress through their training.

Before joining P+HS Brad worked across multiple sectors but soon developed a passion for healthcare design. He has been working with healthcare trusts up and down the country since 2013 and has particular interests in design that promotes mental wellbeing through clear and simple detailing and sensitive use of materials, often utilising natural light and promoting connection to the natural world.

Brad works across the RIBA workstages on everything between stages 0-7, including client briefs and feasibilities, business case development, planning applications, detail and technical design and managing Stage 5 delivery. He has an ongoing interest in contract administration and has acted as Lead Architect & Contract Administrator on multiple traditional projects, most notably for an award winning, £10million cancer centre in the East Midlands. No matter the appointment role, Brad believes offering an exceptional service is key to creating successful projects and prides himself in pairing technical expertise with strong stakeholder engagement skills. Through working closely with clients and the wider communities they serve, Brad promotes design and delivery based around a model of engagement, with listening a key component of informing both processes. No matter the budget, Brad will always work with clients to ensure every brief is met and every client is happy.
