Building Better Healthcare Commends Sheffield PICU
Building Better Healthcare Commends Sheffield PICU
08 November 2016
Sheffield's new PICU facility, Endcliffe, at the Longley Centre has won further national recognition at this year's Building Better Healthcare Awards.
Awarded Highly Commended in the Building Design Class for Best Mental Health Development, this is the third major award for the scheme, having already won Refurbishment Project of the Year at both Design in Mental Health and Health Estates this year.
The judges recognised the marked transformation delivered through the project, describing it as 'giving the building a new lease of life'. The PICU can often be a place of distress, disturbance and challenging behaviour: the new design supports least restrictive practices and provides an excellent variety of space, inside and out, providing choice and a calm, therapeutic environment for users.
Endcliffe Ward is the first phase of Sheffield Health & Social Care NHS Foundation Trust’s ambitious vision for improvements to mental health services. It has established itself as the benchmark and catalyst for the remainder of the Longley Centre. Phase 2 will see the building refurbished, re-modelled and reinvigorated to provide an environment which reflects the highest levels of care for the people of Sheffield.
