Two Projects Shortlisted for Healthcare Design Awards
16 January 2025
Two of our projects are in the running for this year’s prestigious Healthcare Design Awards. The North Lincolnshire and Goole Urgent and Emergency Care scheme has been named a finalist in the Best Acute Design category, and the Northumbria Health and Care Academy has been shortlisted for the Best Primary Care Design.
The Urgent and Emergency Care scheme, designed during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic for the Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation trust, transformed facilities at Scunthorpe General Hospital and Diana Princess of Wales Hospital. Delivering Emergency Departments, Same Day Emergency Care units, and Integrated Acute Assessment Units, the project aligned accommodation and clinical pathways across both sites, improving the quality and consistency of patient care.
Beyond functionality, the design prioritises the patient experience. Thoughtful details such as vibrant paediatric waiting areas with cubby holes and a jungle theme help young patients feel at ease, while digital sky installations bring a calming sense of the outdoors into interior spaces, softening the clinical feel.
The Northumbria Health and Care Academy, located on the grounds of the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Hospital, takes an innovative approach by co-locating advanced training facilities with a fully operational GP practice. This unique design offers healthcare students invaluable, hands-on experience in a real-world clinical setting, bridging the gap between theory and practice.
Extensive collaboration with end users shaped the Academy’s flexible layout, which includes consulting rooms of varying sizes and spaces for digital consultations, reflecting the growing demand for virtual care solutions.
We’re eagerly looking forward to the awards ceremony on the 13th of February, with our very own Cath Lake representing us on the judging panel (don’t worry, she’s judging the Interior Design category—no conflicts here!).
A huge well done to everyone involved in these fantastic projects. Fingers crossed for the awards evening!
