Millfield Surgery Refurbishment Completed

Refurbishments at Millfield Surgery in Easingwold are complete and being enjoyed by staff and patients.

Millfield Surgery is a five partner, dispensing Practice, providing General Medical Services to a rural population of 7,350 almost half of which inhabit outlying villages and farms.

Located in the market town of Easingwold, the surgery’s 30-year-old premises were becoming short of clinical and administrative space to meet the healthcare needs of the area’s growing population.

P+HS Architects' commission was to extend the building, providing new clinical rooms and additional administration space. At the same time, the remainder of the building would be refurbished to offer an increase in clinical and treatment areas, whilst bringing it up to the standards needed for modern day healthcare.

There were a few challenges along the way – the original contractor going into administration, a global pandemic and the need to continue to provide high quality healthcare services throughout construction. Despite all of these, the project was successfully delivered to a delighted client. The P+HS team used innovative engagement techniques to help the client visualise some of the proposals: a new reception desk for example, was modelled so that it could be viewed and ‘walked around’ virtually using Augmented Reality.

Millfield surgery is a welcoming building located at the edge of the town next to community grasslands and with views towards the Hambleton Hills. It has a rural, non-clinical feel that begins in the reception area: a light, airy and contemporary space with calm colours, natural wood and walls hung with beautifully framed artwork from a local gallery.

Architect Ben Lillywhite who led the project for P+HS said: "Despite the challenges faced, huge credit must go to the Practice in delivering this scheme and they have been a pleasure to work alongside. The scheme offers an increase in treatment areas to suit the growing demands of the local population; alongside larger administration areas to provide the staff with the space they require, giving a building the Practice should be proud of."

Thanks to Sally Ann Norman for the lovely photographs!
