Our Newcastle Studio has Moved!

June saw a hive of activity for our northern-most team as they relocated from offices in Milburn House to new premises on Newcastle’s iconic Grey Street. With the end of our lease looming at Milburn House, a move was needed from the historic building where we had grown the Newcastle team from 10 to 23 over 5 years. Leaving was tinged with sadness but new opportunities lay around the corner..

Our new office has a few more mod cons than the old one and we certainly won’t miss the creaky heating system at Milburn House or the drafty windows! We haven’t lost the historic charm that we enjoyed there though; although our office is in a new extension, the main building is full of history and stories. 71 Grey Street was in its day, an hotel on a bustling main thoroughfare in the city. Nos. 69 to 73 Grey Street incorporated the former Royal Turk's Head Hotel. Located opposite the Theatre Royal, the hotel was popular with theatre-goers.

Built around 1837, the Grade 2 listed building was where Suffragettes gathered for tea to celebrate Kathleen Brown’s release from Holloway prison and was also a stop off point for them on October 21st 1912 on the march from Edinburgh to London. The hotel also hosted The Beatles in 1963 when they played at the Majestic Ballroom (now the O2 Academy), with photographic evidence displayed on the walls of the main stairwell. It is even claimed that John Lennon & Paul McCartney wrote ‘She Loves You’ at the hotel!

And just to show the circular nature of life, we discovered a story closer to home that links the building directly to our team. Back in the mid-70’s, Lee Thackray’s dad worked as a cocktail waiter in this very same building in its day as a swanky hotel serving the rich and famous. Today, Lee, one of our Architectural Designers, is serving up drawings and sketches to our discerning client base!

So, our Newcastle team continues to grow and thrive in its new location. Still in the heart of this great city and with the same warm welcome and commitment to delivering exceptional service to our clients in Newcastle and the surrounding regions.

Pop in for a chat and a cuppa; we’d love to show you around.
