We are delighted to share our first professional photos of the new Centre for Cancer Care in Cumbria.
North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust and Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust worked in partnership on this multi-million-pound cancer centre at Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle, creating an exceptional facility for patients from all over north, west and east Cumbria.
The modern state-of-the-art building means that care will be available closer to home and, with non-surgical cancer services together under one roof, will avoid patients having to move around to different parts of the infirmary.
Included are a chemotherapy day unit with 15 treatment chairs and four single quiet rooms, two linear accelerator (LINAC) radiotherapy machines and a CT scanner suite as well as consultation, examination rooms and a café area.
The team consulted widely on the project, using input from a broad range of stakeholders as they carefully considered and thoughtfully crafted design proposals. Every element of the design centres on people; how they might use and experience the building, with the aim of creating the best possible experience for staff, patients, carers, or relatives.
The new building was constructed by Graham and will be operated by Newcastle Hospitals as part of the Northern Centre for Cancer Care.
Our thanks to David Millington for the photographs!
