Planning for Gateshead Supported Living
Planning for Gateshead Supported Living
30 March 2020
Planning has been achieved for a new development to support vulnerable people.
Oban Terrace in Gateshead is being developed by Home Group to provide attractive, secure and affordable homes for people with a range of support needs.
The design had to work with several site challenges including the proximity of a neighbouring care home, overlooking distances from other properties and a steep fall in site levels, but after local consultation, advice from planning, and close teamwork between Home and P+HS Architects, approval was achieved.
The new development will provide 12 one bedroom self-contained flats together with an office, communal lounges, kitchen and gardens.
Accommodation is spread over three floors with shared facilities for socialising and group activities on every floor. At first floor level there is access to the secure communal garden, arranged over three terraces to allow for different groups and activities.
The spacious apartments are arranged to provide views from the living and bedroom spaces over the communal gardens or towards the River Tyne, with large windows providing generous amounts of daylight.
