Progress of Workington's New CDC

Work is now well underway on the new Community Diagnostics Centre in Workington. The £19m scheme will help to provide more diagnostics opportunities and aims to help recovery from the long-lasting impact that COVID-19 had on our waiting lists.

P+HS have been working closely with North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation develop the centre and ensure it meets the priorities of both staff and patients. The provision of six consultant/treatment rooms, MRI, CT, X-ray facilities and patient area will enable more patients to receive timely care alongside faster diagnoses within the region, helping to reduce the growing waiting list and meet local demand.

The new building is strategically located in a former parking area, just steps from the town centre and benefiting from excellent public transport connections. Its design features a combination of buff brick, curtain wall glazing, and sleek aluminium panels. Construction is progressing well, with the steel frame now in place and brickwork reaching the first floor in several sections.

We look forward to seeing the progression of the site, with completion set for July 2025. Take a look at the Site Story here to keep up to date throughout the construction phase.
