Start on Site for new Community Diagnostic Centre
01 May 2024
This week saw North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust host a celebration marking the start on site of a new Community Diagnostic Centre in Workington.
After months of hard work from the P+HS team, it's wonderful to see the new CDC beginning to take shape. When completed, the two-storey building will provide diagnostics, including MRI, CT, X-Ray and services such as ultrasound scanning providing patients in the region with a high quality service closer to home.
Accurate diagnosis is vital to treating patients early and effectively and more than 85% of NHS patients require some form of diagnostic test. Waiting lists are growing, creating pressure to increase both capacity and accessibility. CDCs provide local communities with fast and flexible access to a range of checks, scans, and tests closer to home, reducing the number of hospital visits and waiting times for patients. P+HS Architects are currently involved in several CDCs being developed across the country in response to the NHS drive to increase locally accessible diagnostic facilities and we can't wait to see the Workington CDC progress to completion.
Commenting, Director Derek Shepherd said: "We are delighted the CDC project in Workington has begun the construction phase. Following the extensive site appraisal and in-depth design development with the clinical stakeholders, it is great to see the project now being built. Now on the path to completion the Diagnostic Centre will be a great benefit to the community and ensure early diagnosis contributes to improving health outcomes for many years to come."
