Sunderland's new Emergency Department Opens

After months of work and a complex phased programme of refurbishment and new build, the new £14M Emergency Department at Sunderland Royal Hospital has opened today.

The scheme provides dedicated entrances and separate facilities for children and adults and incorporates the highest levels of modern technology to support improved diagnostics and treatment. The designers worked closely with staff and clinicians, considering progressive patient flows and LEAN working methodologies to provide a layout that would reduce waiting times and improve efficiency.
