Team Visit to Auckland Tower
Team Visit to Auckland Tower
07 December 2022
Some of our team were out and about last week for an architectural visit to Auckland Tower.
Auckland Tower was designed by Nìall McLaughlin and it stands on the threshold between the town of Bishop Auckland and Auckland Castle which was the historic home of the Prince Bishops of Durham.
Its modern design echoes the historic structure of a great wooden siege engine drawn up against the Castle’s fortifications. The team enjoyed experiencing the visitor journey first-hand and gained insight into the development through talking to the client, The Auckland Project.
Martha Mackinnon who arranged the visit said: "Right on the doorstep of our Stokesley and Newcastle offices Auckland Tower was an obvious choice for an inspirational visit and the materials used and the architectural detailing were aspirational talking points. My particular favourites were the simplicity of the detailing of the internal shutters, the concealed gutters and the beautiful artwork on the ceiling of the first floor gallery".
