Endcliffe PICU

Endcliffe PICU (Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit) provides a vastly improved environment for staff, service users and their families. The 10-bed facility was the first phase in the transformation of The Longley Centre for Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust. Phase 2 is now well underway with expected completion in 2019.

The scheme, a mix of refurbishment and new build had several challenges, not least a sloping site and working within the constraints of an existing 1970s concrete framed building.

The project has been hugely successful, improving the outlook for mental healthcare services in Sheffield, elevating the quality of service, increasing local capacity and making a strong positive statement about the Trust's ongoing commitment to its stakeholders.

Endcliffe has to date won two major awards for its design, named Refurbishment Project of the Year at both Design in Mental Health and Healthcare Estates.

“Bigger and better PICU – the right environment for our service users at times when they need the most intensive support. It is fantastic new, bright, spacious environment with access to outdoor spaces”.
