Harehills Community Health Centre

The newly opened three-storey medical centre in Harehills, North Leeds, is revolutionising healthcare services for a community facing significant health inequalities. Replacing one of North Leeds Medical Practice’s outdated premises, the modern facility delivers much-needed improvements to local GP services and aligns with the NHS Long Term Plan’s goal of enhancing access to Primary Care.

Designed with community wellbeing at its heart, the centre provides a comprehensive range of services, including GP appointments, screenings, vaccinations, and an onsite pharmacy conveniently located on the ground floor. To ensure accessibility for all, the facility also features car parking and secure cycle storage, making it easier for Harehills residents and those from neighbouring areas to access essential healthcare.

A welcoming environment has been central to the design, with floor-to-ceiling windows flooding the waiting area with natural light to create a bright and comfortable space for patients and staff alike. The building’s sustainability credentials are equally impressive, achieving a BREEAM rating of “Excellent” by incorporating energy-saving technologies, high-performance building fabric, flexible layouts, and maximising opportunities for natural light and ventilation.

In addition to addressing current healthcare needs, the centre is designed to adapt and evolve with the community. Flexible spaces have been included to accommodate future services, such as training for healthcare students, ensuring the facility remains a valuable resource for years to come.

“At North Leeds Medical practice, we were very excited to move to Harehills Community Health Centre, it is a fantastic building and we have had great feedback from our patients. The space has allowed us to run additional clinics and bring in other services, which will improve access for our patients and, we hope, reduce health inequalities.” Hilary Brockway, Practice Manager.
