Bringing mental healthcare into the heart of the community, the new Laura Mitchell Centre provides a 'front door on the high street' with a modern building for centralised support within a stigma free, therapeutic environment.
South West Yorkshire NHS Foundation Trust were determined to transform services in Calderdale, providing a readily accessible community Hub with improved new health care services for local people: a welcoming building easily accessed on foot, bike, car or via public transport.
The three-story building in Halifax provides a mix of out-patient consultation spaces for CAMHS, Adult and Older Adult Services as well as meeting spaces. The facility also accommodates a flexible work base for community staff with quiet meeting areas and breakfast bar as well as traditional desk arrangements for office based staff and a library. Public areas at street level include reception and waiting area plus a café.
The Laura Mitchell Health and Wellbeing Centre won Project of the Year at the CIOB Committed to Construction in Humber & West Yorkshire Awards 2016.
