Middleton and Dinsdale Medical Practice
Middleton and Dinsdale Medical Practice
Middleton & Dinsdale Medical Practice moved into temporary accommodation in 2017 with short-term planning approval. Expected to be temporary, delays kept the practice in an outdated modular building for seven years, struggling to meet the needs of an expanding patient list. The combined efforts of P+HS Architects and Community Ventures Management transformed this situation, delivering a new facility within just ten months despite the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic and heightened demand for healthcare services.
P+HS Architects worked with Durham & Tees Community Ventures Ltd on behalf of NHS property Services to provide a fit-for purpose premises, meeting the latest NHS standards for Primary Care Accommodation. The new building has a contemporary agricultural appearance lending itself to its countryside surroundings. The exterior cladding was black fibre cement panel laid vertically to mimic a timber weatherboard. The building has large windows and curtain wall features which allows lots of natural light to enter the building. The large windows paired with high ceiling levels makes the internal rooms feel spacious and comfortable.
The new health centre is designed to accommodate a wide range of healthcare services and ensure a comfortable environment for both patients and staff. It includes six Consultation Rooms, two dedicated Treatment rooms, Clean and Dirty Utility rooms, a Health Promotion room, staff wellbeing areas and administration space with three and four person offices.
The patients are greeted with a warm welcome upon arrival with the visually attractive and local to the area landscape of Roseberry Topping acting as the front and centre piece artfully hiding the outdoor plant area within the internal courtyard. Signage and wayfinding make the building easy to navigate whilst a pallet of contemporary internal finishes provides a warm and vibrant theme throughout the building. The building incorporates an underfloor heating system throughout the medical centre with each room having separate controls.
Liz Stewart, practice manager at Middleton & Dinsdale Medical Practice (MDMP), said:
"As we have watched the building take shape over the last ten months, excitement has risen.
"Now we are looking forward to a new era in the practice's history. We have more clinical space than we’ve ever had, and we hope to provide more services as we grow the practice."
