On Site Cumberland Endoscopy Unit
P+HS have been working closely with North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust to develop an expansion of the endoscopy service at the Cumberland Infirmary (CIC) through the provision of a new 5 room endoscopy unit.
The £15m scheme will replace existing undersized, non-compliant clinical accommodation, which currently sits within the main hospital, with a modern self-contained building designed to support both out-patient and in-patient flow.
The addition of five clinical rooms and an outpatient area will enable more patients to receive timely care alongside faster diagnoses, helping to reduce the growing waiting list and meet local demand.
The site for the new building is in an area of parking and landscaping; adjacent to the Northern Centre for Cancer Care, also designed by P+HS. The elevational treatment consists of buff brick, curtain wall glazing and patterned perforated aluminium panels with a nature inspired design motif.
Working in partnership with Ergea, CCL Solutions, and the Trust, P+HS have designed the building to prioritise both patients and staff, featuring enhanced training facilities and improved patient environments.
To ensure the unit is operational as quickly as possible, modern construction methods are being utilised with a total of 46 modules currently being created at Actiform’s factory in West Yorkshire.
We look forward to seeing the progression of the site, with completion set for March 2025.
