On Site Workington Community Diagnostics Centre

P+HS have been working closely with North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust to develop a Community Diagnostics Centre in Workington. The £19m scheme will help to provide more diagnostics opportunities and aims to help recovery from the long-lasting impact that COVID-19 had on our waiting lists.

The provision of six consultant/treatment rooms, MRI, CT, X-ray facilities and patient area will enable more patients to receive timely care alongside faster diagnoses within the region, helping to reduce the growing waiting list and meet local demand.

The site for the new building is in an area of car parking; adjacent to the town centre with excellent public transport links. The elevational treatment consists of buff brick, curtain wall glazing and aluminium panels.

Working in partnership with Graham Group, CCL Solutions, and the Trust, P+HS have designed the building to prioritise both patients and staff, featuring enhanced staff facilities and improved patient environments.

We look forward to seeing the progression of the site, with completion set for July 2025.

Fantastic to see real progress on this scheme. The steel frame has been erected with brickwork well underway and up to first floor in parts.

“We are all delighted that work has now started to build the new centre. Our teams have been working hard to recover from the long-lasting impact that COVID-19 had on our waiting lists and are we are making good progress. By providing more diagnostics, this will help with quicker diagnoses of a range of conditions.”

A selection of initial site survey photos, showcasing the long, narrow car park, where it was apparent that the site was incredibly constrained due to the ground conditions, existing road network and surrounding properties (of mixed use), among other things.
