RIBA Future Architects Mentoring
RIBA Future Architects Mentoring
The RIBA champions architects at all stages of professional development with education, professional development, support and opportunities for a better future.
Every year, the RIBA facilitates a mentoring programme for students of architecture, bringing practices into education to support the next generation. In 2022/23, 1200 students across 37 RIBA validated Schools of Architecture took part in the scheme, in collaboration with 314 Chartered Practices.
This flexible programme is a great way to gain invaluable experience in Practice, providing students with a unique insight into the profession and also helping build their network for the future.
For architects, working within RIBA Chartered Practices, the Future Architects Mentoring scheme is an opportunity to connect with RIBA Schools of Architecture and support students of architecture to prepare for a life in architectural practice.
P+HS are proud to support the RIBA Future Architects Student Mentoring Programme, bringing practice and education together to support the next generation.
In 2024 two colleagues from our Newcastle studio undertook the mentoring role; Architects Nathan Sanders and Ellen Baines worked with second year students from Northumbria University as architect mentors. The aim is to help students better prepare for life working in practice, have a chance to reflect on their career direction and to gain support and advice from qualified architects. Over four sessions, Nathan and Ellen covered a range of topics, from clients and cashflow, practical tips on writing a CV and compiling a portfolio to mini workshops on 3D printing and software skills. There was also a site visit to an ongoing residential development, giving valuable insight into the various stages of construction on a live site.
It was a pleasure to host the students and we wish them all the very best in their future!
